Delhi Police. If you know what the spices like turmeric, garam masala, dry mango powder and other spices present in your kitchen are made of, then perhaps you would not even like to touch them, let alone eat them. Yes, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police has sealed two such factories, where various spices were being made from rotten things, chemicals, tree bark and wood sawdust.
The spices made in both these factories were being packed in packets of various famous broads and being sold in the market. The Crime Branch team has arrested three people from these factories, who have been identified as Dilip Singh, Sarfaraz and Khurshid Malik. At the same time, during the raid, the police recovered chemicals and rotten items being used to preserve spices from both the factories.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Rakesh Pawaria, recently intelligence input was received that some shopkeepers and spice manufacturers of North East Delhi are making and selling adulterated spices in Delhi-NCR in the name of different brands. The responsibility of investigating this input was given to ASI Kanwarpal. After confirming the information received in the input, a team was formed under the leadership of Inspector Virendra Singh.
This is how turmeric powder was being prepared in the factory
According to DCP Rakesh Pawaria, the Crime Branch team raided a factory running in Karawal Nagar area of North East Delhi, from where Dilip Singh alias Bunty and Khurshid Malik were arrested. At the time when the Crime Branch team raided this factory, turmeric was being prepared by mixing inedible, banned and unclean items, various types of acids and oils. After this, the Crime Branch team raided the factory running on Kali Khata Road in Karawal Nagar and arrested a person named Sarfaraz.
All the spices in the kitchen were being made from these rotten things.
During interrogation, Dilip Singh told that he is the owner of this factory, whereas Khurshid Malik used to supply these adulterated spices in the market. During the investigation, the crime branch team came to know that to save turmeric powder, garam masala powder, mango powder and other spices, rotten rice, rotten coconut, eucalyptus leaves, rotten blackberries, wood sawdust, citric acid were used. Apart from bran, dried chilli stalk, many types of chemicals were used. According to the Crime Branch, none of the items recovered from the spot were fit for consumption.
